About 100,000 dead fish floating in a river in Arkansas in the United States while reports say 5,000 blackbirds mysterious drop dead from the sky before New Year's Eve.

The birds - most of whom were killed - the red-winged blackbirds and starlings, which were found in an area a mile from Beebe, about 40 miles north of Little Rock, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, said. The bird fell on an area about a mile, the Commission said in a statement.
The Commission said it flew over the area to assess the magnitude of the event and no birds were found outside the area of origin of a mile.

Karen Rowe, an ornithologist of the commission, said the incident is not unusual and is often caused by lightning or hail at higher altitudes.

A strong storm moved through the state earlier in the day Friday.

"It is important to understand that a sick bird can not fly. So what happened to these birds came very quickly, "
"Something must have caused these birds to flush out the trees at night where they are generally all change and remain in the treetops and then something between them is out of the air and caused their death and they fell to earth "
