Canada: Install More Toll Roads for a Better Commute

Convincing Canadians to adopt more taxes and higher fees is an almost impossible endeavor. Government officials and politicians are unlikely to propose a plan that involves citizens giving more of their income to the government.

Unfortunately for Canadians, it might be time to adopt toll roads. By installing tollbooths along the roads of major cities, drivers will be forced to consider how long their commute is. They may respond by choosing to live closer to work or elect to travel during off-peak hours. Despite criticisms to the contrary, Canada should install tollbooths in their major cities.

BSE Seeks Regional Offices Across Country

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), a leading Indian stock market will open regional offices in Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Cochin as part of its continued expansion across the country, a senior officer of the exchange, has said Tuesday.

“We already have a Delhi office, we are upgrading it. We will soon open regional offices in Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Cochin,” said Madhu Kannan, managing director and chief executive officer.

IndiGo Plans To Hire 1,500 People This Year

IndiGo on Wednesday said it expects to employ up to 1,500 people this year in support of its major expansion drive.

"Salary Indigo from 1.200 to 1.500 people in the calendar year 2011, of which 400-500 would be a staff cabin crew, pilots, as well as some of the 200-300 engineers and field personnel," Indigo president Aditya Ghosh said.

Middle East Crisis: Sensex Down 142 points

India, the benchmark stock market index closed 142 points lower Tuesday on continued weakness in the stock market volatile on political tensions in the Middle East, oil prices spiked, which weighs on stock markets around the world.

The 30-bag sensitive index of Bombay Stock Exchange, which opened at 18,390.72 points closed at 18,296.16 points, down 142.15 points or 0.77 per cent of its previous close at 18,438.31 points.

RBI To Hike Key Rates by 25 Basis Points Next Month

Goldman Sachs said today it expects the RBI to raise rates by 25 basis points at its policy review next month to control high inflation. 

"We expect the RBI to increase rates by 25 points in the monetary policy meeting on 17 March and by 100 basis points accumulated during the calendar year 2011," Goldman said in a research note.

Nokia and Microsoft Joins To Boost Smartphone Sale

The mobile phone maker Nokia and software giant Microsoft will form a strategic alliance, a move that will help fight competition from rivals Google and Apple in the smartphone market.

The alliance announced today, Nokia would adopt your Microsoft Windows as the leading smart phone platform. The two entities form a "comprehensive strategic partnership to use their complementary strengths and capabilities to create a new global mobile ecosystem," Nokia said in a statement.

BSE Benchmark Sensex Ends By 68 Points Up

BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday, 5-day circuit of the tube and has received more than 68 points close to the value of 18,090.62 on the emergence of strong buying stocks led by Reliance Industries.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Figures Rise by 14.74 Percent at 109,743 Units

Maruti Suzuki has registered a 14.74 percent increase in sales of 109,743 units in January against 95,649 units during the same period of 2010.

Sale includes 9,321 units of exports during the month, the company said in a statement.

The company had sold a total of 95,649 vehicles in January 2010, including 81,087 vehicles in the market.

Hyundai Motor’s Net Profit Up by 48 pc in 4th Quarter

Hyundai Motor rises48 percent net profit in the fourth quarter to a record as the automaker's overseas earnings harvested sales.Hyundai strong, said Thursday it won won 1.4 trillion U.S. dollars (1.3 billion dollars) the three months ended Dec. 31 after recording 946 billion won profit a year earlier.

Hyundai Motor Co., the largest automaker in South Korea and was a major force in the global industry in expanding aggressively abroad, with factories in China, India, Turkey, the United States, and the Czech Republic late last year, Russia. The company and South Korean Kia Motors Corp. together form the fifth largest global automotive group.

Sensex Ends Below 19K on Rate Hike

SBI Shows 13.45 Pc Rise in Net Profit

State Bank of India today announced a 13.45 percent increase in percent of consolidated net profit of R 3806.49 crore for the third quarter ended Dec. 31 in the same period a year ago.

The bank had a profit net Rs 3354.94 crore in the period last year, the SBI said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

World Bank Issues First Yaun Bonds


The World Bank has issued bonds before the Yuan in China supports the international use of its currency, also known as the renminbi.

The World Bank said in a statement Monday it is raising 500 million yuan (76 million) by issuing bonds of two years, paying 0.95 percent interest semi-annually.

Tata Group, Titan Industries is eyeing to double sales of its Sonata brand watches over the next 3-4 years on the back of the affordability and reliability of fire, a senior company official said.
